An approach to the creative and productive fabric of Spanish design

READ presents the seventh itinerary of From Spain With Design, which has the collaboration of the Association of Designers of Madrid (DIMAD) and the sponsorship of UDIT, University of Design, Innovation and Technology.

The exhibition will be held at the Central de Diseño de Matadero Madrid and will be open to the public from February 1 to March 17.

This edition is part of the program of the Madrid Design Festival 24.

About the exhibition

After having successfully visited Santiago de Compostela, Aveiro (Portugal), Murcia, Valencia, Badajoz and Gijón, the acclaimed exhibition From Spain With Design: Identity and Territory arrives in Madrid with design in a multitude of forms as the protagonist of its seventh itinerary.

Organised by the Spanish Network of Design Associations (READ), with the collaboration of the Association of Designers of Madrid (DIMAD) and the sponsorship of UDIT, University of Design, Innovation and Technology, the exhibition will open its doors to the public from 1 February to 17 March at the Central de Diseño de Matadero Madrid, to give visibility to national design through initiatives carried out by Spanish professionals.

The exhibition will include new proposals from Madrid design professionals and companies that will offer an updated overview of the sector and innovations in the discipline in the region, including Álvaro Catalán de Ocón, Pedro Feduchi, Henar Iglesias, Supperstudio, etc.

The exhibition brings together different types of design work following a common thread that comprises five thematic axes: “Identity and territory”, “Intersections”, “Internationalisation”, “Sustainability” and “Complicities”. Under the umbrella of these axes, visitors will find more than 100 pieces that, during the almost two months that the exhibition will last, will be accompanied by an intense series of parallel activities such as talks and workshops, both for the public and for professionals and companies.

This exhibition aims to make visible diverse and varied initiatives carried out by Spanish professionals in recent years. It brings together design projects from different areas that stand out for their quality, for their projection in the national and international market, for being a model of synergy between designer and company, for giving coherent responses and for building value by understanding the role of the discipline, its transformative power, its contribution to society.

Among the works you can see creations by established designers such as the iconic Follow Me, by Inma Bermúdez; Totem, by Martín Azúa; Anémona, by Idoia Cuesta or the established Bota, by Noviembre Estudio together with pieces by emerging designers who work in new areas of design such as the Bolina chair, by Amalia Puga or La Fresca, by Granada Barrero; the Amelia box, by Cenlitros metrocuadrado or the Vélez Collection, by Leblume Estudio.

The exhibition covers designs from all territories in a panoramic view of current design from the most exclusive (Closca helmet) to the mundane (Carro 8 plus eco, by Rolser); from the industrial (Noray, by Jorge Herrera Estudio) to the artisanal (Barbian dress by Kos for Rodrigo Cuevas); from the physical (Val do Barco, by Tomás Alonso Estudio) to the virtual (Nomad Gardens).

FSWD: Identity and Territory is conceived as a living exhibition in its itinerancies and the pieces exhibited vary from one exhibition to another through a selection of professionals and studios from the territory. The furniture supporting the original, responsive exhibition design, born from a national call, is signed by Enorme Estudio.

DIMAD and READ will develop a program of events parallel to the exhibition to promote the dissemination, debate and approach to the discipline, both for the design sector and for the general public.

FSWD is a project organised by READ that was born with the support of the Ministry of Culture and Sport of the Government of Spain. During its tour in Madrid, it has the collaboration of DIMAD for its organisation and coordination, and is sponsored by UDIT, the University of Design, Innovation and Technology. On this occasion, the exhibition is part of the programme of the seventh edition of the Madrid Design Festival.

Uqui Permui (DAG), Ángel Martínez (ADCV), Gloria Escribano (DIMAD) and Juan Lázaro (Cuenca Diseña) are the curators of the exhibition and coordinators of the FSWD project within READ.

UDIT Space

This space displays a selection of projects by students in the areas of Product Design and Graphic Design at the University of Design, Innovation and Technology / UDIT, an institution that has joined this edition of FROM SPAIN WITH DESIGN in Madrid, in a clear commitment to Spanish design.

These are different projects, many of them awarded with international prizes, which stand out for their innovation and which speak to us of emerging designers with a promising professional career.

Worthy of note are the Product Design works in which many of the thematic axes of this exhibition converge, above all, the line of work in sustainability, but also its international projection and work with the user. An interesting quarry to which to give visibility and diffusion and which can allow itself to dialogue, with pride and in a sensitive way, with the set of proposals that make up the exhibition of design studios and companies that are part of FSWD.
