Descripción: Como en muchos países donde no existió una tradición tipográfica que se remonta en muchos casos a los inicios de la imprenta, en Galicia se optó por llevar las artes aplicadas, la artesanía, el dibujo o la ilustración al diseño de tipografías. Muchas de las características de la denominada letra gallega emergen a principios del s. XX gracias al trabajo de artistas como Camilo Díaz Baliño, Carlos Sobrino o Castelao, como parte fundamental del trabajo de cartelismo, portadas de revistas, libros y diarios. Siguiendo esta línea, en el entorno del Laboratorio de Formas, en la segunda mitad del siglo XX se proponen las primeras formas tipográficas que intentaron una fusión de las formas tradicionales gallegas con los referentes europeos. Este proto-diseño de tipos en Galicia se desarrolla en un campo de tensión entre el Arte y el Diseño. En un primer momento será la talla en piedra lo que inspire esas formas tan propias, seguidas en la época actual por métodos de baja tecnología, que provocan imprecisiones, variaciones e interpretaciones libres por parte del dibujante-diseñador. Isaac Sans es una tipografía lineal grotesca construida, término acuñado por Adrian Frutiger en los 80’ para definir una nueva tipología a medio camino entre las grotescas y las geométricas. Isaac Sans recoge esa vieja idea de hacer compatible la vanguardia radical con la funcionalidad de un texto de lectura, pero también es una mirada hacia los referentes históricos de la tipografía gallega. / Description: As in many countries where there was no typographic tradition that dates back in many cases to the beginnings of the printing press, in Galicia it was decided to bring applied arts, crafts, drawing or illustration to the design of typefaces. Many of the characteristics of the so-called Galician letter emerge at the beginning of the 20th century. XX thanks to the work of artists such as Camilo Díaz Baliño, Carlos Sobrino or Castelao, as a fundamental part of the work of posters, magazine covers, books and newspapers. Following this line, in the environment of the Forms Laboratory, in the second half of the 20th century, the first typographic forms were proposed that attempted a fusion of traditional Galician forms with European references. This proto-design of types in Galicia develops in a field of tension between Art and Design. At first it will be the stone carving that inspires these very own forms, followed in the current era by low-tech methods, which cause inaccuracies, variations and free interpretations on the part of the draftsman-designer. Isaac Sans is a constructed grotesque linear typography, a term coined by Adrian Frutiger in the 1980s to define a new typology halfway between grotesque and geometric. Isaac Sans picks up that old idea of making the radical avant-garde compatible with the functionality of a reading text, but it is also a look at the historical references of Galician typography.
